What does this announcement mean to the VDI market?


The HDX Ready System-on-Chip (SoC) initiative represents a sea-change in VDI. NComputing will be able to accelerate the Citrix vision of HDX/Receiver everywhere through high performance, ultra-low energy and low cost per seat reference designs powered by our Numo SoC. For the NComputing OEM eco-system, it will provide the potential for entirely new product categories of HDX Ready devices and market opportunities.


What are details for the HDX enabled NComputing solution?


NComputing has a long history of success in designing end to end desktop virtualization solutions as well as enabling an ecosystem of OEM partners such as LG and Fujitsu. With this announcement, NComputing will extend the reach of its innovative products and will sell an HDX Ready SoC design to OEM partners as well as provide an ICA/HDX client device for the enterprise market.


Why is NComputing partnering with Citrix?


Citrix and NComputing have a common vision to drive mainstream adoption of virtual deskops – for everyone and share a goal to eliminate the barriers of cost and complexity which have delayed adoption in some markets. Citrix HDX enables a great user experience for virtual computing solutions. NComputing’s Numo SoC technology completely redefines the market by setting a new level of performance at an industry leading price point. By bringing these two market leading technologies together; enterprise customers will be able to significantly lower the initial acquisition costs of virtual computing solutions.

How will this impact future plans for the current NComputing product lines?


The new NComputing HDX Ready client devices will be an addition and complementary to the existing NComputing product line and will be of interest to enterprise customers evaluating Citrix XenDesktop or XenApp.

We want to assure our Education and SME customers worldwide that we continue to invest in current product lines which have offered them lowest cost, simple, high performance virtual desktops. In fact, we are working on exciting new products to be unveiled in 2012. How much does the Numo HDX Ready SoC cost?


Pricing will be available to partners under NDA that are signed up with the HDX Ready System-on-Chip (SoC) program. Will the Numo HDX Ready SoC be “cloud ready”?


Yes, we will fully support the HDX protocol and will take advantage of its unique ability to work with low bandwidth and high latency of a typical cloud environment.


What are the Numo design specs that will support the HDX SoC Ready program?


The latest generation of the Numo chip is based on a high performance multi-core, state of the art ARM Cortex A9 CPU with a custom multimedia engine that supports a broad array of compression/decompression technologies. With power consumption at less than 2 watts, it will provide computation capabilities that are similar and in some scenarios better than state-of-the-art PCs but a fraction of the cost and power envelope. Can I upgrade my L300 to support ICA/HDX?


The NComputing L300 client is designed to work with the NComputing vSpace Server software and is part of our end-to-end desktop virtualization solution for Education and SME customers. There will be NComputing solutions introduced in 2012 that will support ICA/HDX.


Is NComputing supporting Microsoft RFX as well?


As a Microsoft Gold Partner, NComputing is a member of the RFX developer program. NComputing has a long term view of providing support for other protocols including RFX, however our first investment is with the HDX Ready System-on-Chip (SoC) program.
