I have this problem whereby the connection always lost and pop up this error message :

Connection was closed but your data is not lost and applications still run at server side. Please connect Terminal Server later

It happens every 10 minutes. I've check on the Internet regarding this error and it says that it might caused by the network or Terminal Server. What I did was :

  • Change network switch
  • Re-format the Terminal Server

But it doesn't work. The problem still happens every 10-15 minutes. What else I can troubleshoot? Please advice.

Thanks in advance

From my experience this is always a traffic problem.
How many units do you have connected to the system?
What is your system OS?
Have you changed the cable from the server to the switch?
Can you put a 1GB card in the server?

Thanks for the reply.

How many units do you have connected to the system? 9 units. But not all connected at the same time. I've tried running on 3 units but still the problem exists.

What is your system OS? Windows XP Profesional

Have you changed the cable from the server to the switch? Yes. I've even plug in all the Office Stations and Terminal Server on the same switch.

Can you put a 1GB card in the server? Do you mean 1GB of RAM or Network Card. The Terminal Server are running on 1GB Network card and 2 GB RAM.

I do understand that it caused by network congestion. But I just can't find the solution. Is there anything else that I left out? Please advice.

Thanks in advance.

Are you using a managed or un-managed switch? Some people have had problems with a specific brand of managed switch. I am sorry I cannot remember the exact unit, because the old forum is gone. None the less, I am just running on a cheap 1 GB SMCGS8.

I'm using un-managed. Is just a normal D-Link 24port switch.

I still suspect a traffic problem. What programs are you using on a regular basis?
Can you download a traffic monitor to see what is using up your bandwidth?

Problem Solved!

It's the traffic problem causes by a hardware "network balancer". Not quite sure what device it is. Anyway, thanks for all the advice and help.

Network Balancer is a hardware device. I'm not sure how does it work but when I plug out from the switch, all the problem solved.
