Subject: Durability of L230 in Brutal Environment (Anyone in similar environment?)

Hi. I'm working as IT personnel in one of the local chemical company where we store more than 100 types of chemicals in our warehouses. These chemicals has seriously polluted the air in the warehouses and the computers we had been greatly reduced their life spans due to corrosive air sucks into the computer itself.

Now we are looking into L230 to solve our problem but the same issue worried us. Does anyone has experience in deploying L230 into such environment ?? I would appreciate any sharing on this. Thank you.

Hi,

I don't really have any experience to answer your question, I just want to contribute with a thought... :-)

Our ability to isolate computers is severely impaired by the need of airflow to cool the computer. That's the reason why we can't wrap them up in plastic.

While this issue exists with NComputing L-230, it's definitely a simpler problem than with a complete PC. The L-230 has air vents underneath it, maybe you could experiment to see how well it survives by wrapping just the top in plastic, or even all of it!, if your environment isn't very hot.

When you said "Brutal environment", my first thought was "Sure!... Classrooms!"

I do not use them in a corrosive environment. But I can tell you that they are a lot cheaper to replace that a pc or a normal thin client, i.e. wyse, hp etc. Get one and test you programs and connectivity. I would think the monitor would go first.

I would tend to think the L-series boxes would last longer actually.  I'm not sure that there's an actual fan running in the device, no fan = no nasty air pulling in.

 

I use to work at an oil refinery and that's a nasty place for computers too.  We had some CPUs placed in enclosures that have a filter on them.  The ones we had were from Dustshield.  I'd recommend them highly.  www.dustshield.com
