Hi,

I just bought my first NComputing device - a L-230 and I am loving it! Except...

Except that the USB port shows absolutely no sign of life. It's as if it wasn't there. I plug in USB pen drives (tried 2 Gb, 1Gb and 128Mb) and they never even blink their lights. I never see them under Device Manager or Disk Management in Windows.

My host system is Windows 2000 running under VMWare. I did all the updates to the device's Flash and to NCT software, tried installing, rebooting and reinstalling dozens of times.

I have perfect access to my desktop from the L-230, so the software is running fine... what could be hindering the USB port? Could the hardware be defective?

Thanks in advance!

I attached an image showing what is seen in my Device Manager, in case it helps...

Did you check in the NCT software and on the device if the usb port was enabled? Should have been enabled by default. But it is worth a check.

Windows 2000 is your problem - NOT a good OS in terms of vitual drivers

Thanks for your answers!

ncs: I understand that Windows 2000 might not be the best., but nevertheless it is a supported system, and I guess I'm stuck with it; itt's licensed, it's installed and working for years, changing it is not an option.

JohnB:

I am not familiar with NComputing, so I'm not sure if I have USB enabled. I have the following settings:

-on the L-230 device itself, I couldn't find any USB-related options...

- on the host, in NC/2000/XP Console: under Local Settings/Information & Settings / System Settings / "Prevent access of the USB-storage devices to the attached terminal." I have NO.

- on the same placee, option "UTMA/UTSA USB port support" is set to YES.

- in other places where these two options appear, I also have the same settings.

Then I have some other places where USB is mentioned, please see the attached image:

Am I missing anything? Thanks!

Looks like you have the nct software set correctly. On the VmWare side is USB working when you plug a usb device into the host machine?

Thank you John, for your efforts, but I filed a tech support ticket with NComputing and I just got word that USB simply does not work on Windows 2000, something they forgot to mention on their website, on the product datasheets, on the knowledge base, or on the product packaging and instructions. They always say it works on "Windows", then they go "oh, sorry, we meant Windows XP only".

I thought they were joking, I'm having a hard time taking this in. What a waste of money and time. Unbelievable.
