Features missing from the new Forum software that were widely used in the old forum:

o formatting tags (particularly QUOTE)
o include hot links (clickable URL links)
o attachments (a la screenshots - supported by ActiveForums)
o attachments (code segments/scripts)
o ability to edit own posts (supported by ActiveForums)
o ability to IM users

Virtually all these functions should be considered necessary to adequately resolve problems and troubleshoot issues. Formatting to help keep posts organized, hot links to easily refer users to other threads, attach screenshots to SEE whats wrong, edit posts to correct typos or incorrect information.

Can we expect these functions to be made available? Honestly, Burningboard appears far more robust from a USERs point of view than ActiveForums. Was there a compelling reason to change from the administrator/hosts pint of view? If not, I'd strongly suggest changing back if the above features are unavailable.

Another problem with the new forum:

The "remember login" function appears to be broken. It only seems to "remember" me for about 30 minutes -- then I need to log-in again.

I saw Aubry ran through yesterday -- will anyone from Ncomputing address these requests? Or acknowledge they've been seen?

Thanks.

The new forum has been updated with a few new features for registered users:

  • WYSIWYG HTML editor for posts and replies
  • Up to three attachments per message (jpg, gif, pdf, bmp, png allowed, up to 60 kB)
  • Edit your own posts
  • Subscribe to threads
  • Add polls

We're working on the IM feature, which would be helpful.

If you wish to attach code segments or scripts, the best way to do that currently is just to do a copy-paste into the post. I think that should cover it.

Please keep the requests coming for the new forum if there is anything else.

Tom:

Will you be addressing the "Remember Login" problem?  It doesn't appear to work.  I can understanding forcing a user to re-login once a month -- or even once a week, but this is silly.

Thank you for promply addressing the other issues.

Also, I noticed that when indenting, it appears to break "submit", "preview" and "cancel".  Essentially, I need to either hit "back" on my browser or close the browser and try again.  I'm pretty sure the problem is indenting a quoted block of text.  Interesting bug.

This particular bug is really annoying.  Is there any ETA on getting this resolved?

Tom:

When you state the above, did you forget the part where you say  "so we can ignore them"?

I hate to sound hostile, but seriously?  Why bother asking?

I asked 3 weeks ago and I was ignored and got no response.  I asked 2 weeks ago and I was ignored and got no response.  I asked 1 week ago and I was ignored and I got no response.

Can't you even acknowledge that you've read the request and passed it on do be debugged?

It's now been 4 weeks.  Does Ncomputing have any plan to fix this broken system?

Ncomputing, are you blowing us off?

Jhon,

we are closer to finding the setting here, it's not something that the forum administrators control. Thanks for your continued patience.

It's been over 6 weeks since the problem was reported -- there have been 4 weeks of Ncomputing totally ignoring requests after ASKING us to "Please keep the requests coming for the new forum if there is anything else".  And we're pushing 2 weeks since you stated you were "closer to finding the setting".

Is this type of response something Nomcputing finds acceptable?  It is something they've historically enganged in with regards to the forum.  Is this the continued response level we can expect?

I await your prompt response on both the forum issue and the acceptability of ncomputings repsonse here.

Thank you.

Bryan:

In another base, I posted links to your vendor's website -- and that they have a forum where you could request help.  Have you done this?

Have you contacted your vendor and described the problem?

Have you checked your web.config file for activeforum?  Have you noticed the default?  Is it 60?  Shouldn't it be longer?  Say maybe around 10000 minutes?  If this is the problem, Ncomputing should be ashamed of frustrating users for nearly 8 weeks when it took me only 5 minutes to locate this setting having no experience with the software.

Bryan:

Seriously, why does Ncomputing make statements like "let us know what other features are needed" and "we'll keep you posted" and then blow us off?  Is there some type of entertainment this provides Ncomputing?  To see how pissed off and frustrated you can get your customer base?  Is this the environment you had in mind when you put up the forum?

It's extremely off putting.

So, you've been out of the office for 4 weeks?  Wow.  Must be nice.  What about tligda?  He been out for 8? Aubry?  Any ncomputing person who can be charged to follow up on tasks currently due by staff who's OOTO?

I haven't seen you guys follow up on anything you say you'll follow up on without several weeks (sometimes months) of nagging.  Will this change?

I look forward to your prompt report regarding the remember login problem, restoring the old forum messages and if ncomputing will change their habit of blowing off users for weeks and months when they state they will follow up.

Thanks!

You must be OOTO again.  Wouldn't it be easier to say when you are *IN* your office?  Your failure to respond in anything that can be considered timely suggests you are hardly ever *IN* your office.  Must be true for all the other Ncomputing staff who posts here.

Seriously, why do you even bother posting?  I don't thnk it's unreasonable to expect a 1-day, or 3-day turn around on this.  It's been MONTHS now.  Why make a statement you have no intention of following up on?  There is no excuse why the remember login bug could not have been resolved 2 months ago when it was first reported.  But then again, there was no reason why it took several months for Ncomputing to patch HUGE security hole in their FTP server that allowed EVERYONE read-write access.

I'm tired of this.  Unless the problems listed are addressed within 1 week (with either fixes or reasons WHY they will not be done) I'm going to cease any relationship (business and userbased support) with Ncomputing.  I haven't posted many "help" emails awaiting for at least the "remember login" bug to be fixed.  I'm completely sick of this.

Remember Login FIXED (CALL YOUR VENDOR FOR SUPPORT TO HELP YOU!!!)

Ok.  I'm done.  From the countless promises that things would change (they havent), to the failure to respond to your insecure update FTP server for months putting your customers at risk -- from coutless ignored requests for product updates to letting deadlines come and go without comment.  I'm done.

I've scaled back our shops roll out to just a single host and that's scheduled to be retired in October.  I'll not be doing business with Ncomputing any more.  There is just no excuse for this.

I suggest that anyone considering Ncomputing solutions to consider their lack of responsiveness to this community and overall security.

Good day all.

Et voilà comment perdre de bons voire même très bons clients à cause d'un support technique misérable !
Je trouve cela aussi inadmissible que John le signale et c'est même se foutre totalement de la gueule du client !
 Aucun respect !

John is right : I was very happy while testing L200 and L230, but because of lack of support, i have stop the deployment of that units ... and i am just helping people with problem and waiting for a sign of life from the NComputing stuff but nothing ...

May be I will do something like you do John, and I will go away and look at another product ... But I did not find anything suitable from now ... May be the Sun Ray 2 stations would be good, or something else like that ...

At long last we have finally managed to get the "remember login" feature timing extened; it now will now log you on and save your log on information for an extended period. Thanks for everybody's patience in this matter.

Byran
