Linux Beta Program April 2008 Ncomputing has launched a beta program that provides updates to our Linux software for both the X-300 and L-series L130 & L230. This beta program includes distribution releases for: X300 on Ubuntu 7.04 L130 on openSUSE 10.2 L230 on openSUSE 10.2 (limited feature set) The beta program will be to qualified end-customers. In order to participate in the program, you must submit a request by going to the following link: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?sm=5l_2blx9q9n5omWoNhPiIWDA_3d_3d Participation in the beta program will be limited and partners/customers must meet certain qualifications including: - Must already have purchased applicable NComputing products (proof of purchase may be required) - Complete contact information must be submitted including a valid corporate e-mail address (beta program is not available to home/individual users) - Agree to install only on the listed distributions - Agree that all support is via the web based beta management tool - Other restrictions may apply If you qualify, Ncomputing will email you with an invitation into the program and details on how to download the software and submit feedback online. Please note that the beta products will not be supported through our standard technical support channels. All beta feedback and bug reporting must be submitted via the online system through which the beta program will be conducted. Frequently Asked Questions: Q: What Linux distributions are being supported in this NComputing beta program? A: Ubuntu 7.04 for the X300 and openSUSE 10.2 for the L130 and L230. Q: How are these releases supported and where can I get additional questions answered? A: All questions about features, installation, system configurations or any other aspects of the beta releases will be reviewed only though the web-based beta management tool where the software was downloaded. NComputing makes no guarantees as to whether questions or issues can be resolved during the course of the beta program. Q: How long will it take to get an answer via the web tool? A: Responses to specific questions are not guaranteed and will be a function of how many responses we have to the beta program, the number of questions and the level of detail involved in each question. Response time will be based on these factors. Some questions and/or issues will likely not be resolved within the course of the beta program. Q: How often will you update the releases? A: We’ll update the beta releases, via the web tool, as necessary for the beta program based upon beta feedback. Q: What other distributions will Ncomputing support in the future? A: At this time we are only planning to support Ubuntu 7.04 and openSUSE 10.2. We will expand coverage in the second half of 2008 but the number of distributions and versions supported will not expand beyond a few key distributions Q: What about installing over other Linux distributions? A: There are well over 100 different Linux distributions worldwide and NComputing has chosen to support the two open distributions that best serve our target markets for our current product line. As mentioned above we will support no more than a few key distributions at any given time. Installing over other Linux distributions with other than the specified desktop is not recommended. We will take recommendations to consider other Linux versions to support but we will not incorporate changes in future releases that are targeted to support other distributions. Q: When will you have a general release of these two distributions? A: This will be entirely based upon the feedback within the beta program. Q: What are the limits to the L230 feature set? A: The L230 is supported except for microphone and USB support. Other limits or restrictions are covered in the SUSE 10.2 L-series readme. Q: What desktops are supported? A: The desktop is a critical component of the release and only the GNOME desktop is supported in either the Ubuntu 7.04 or openSUSE 10.2 releases. Q: Is there a read me and installer guide for the program? A: Both are provided in the web based beta tool and the readme (for advanced reading) is in the NComputing Knowledge Base at http://ncomputing.com/support.aspx Q: Where can I find more details on each beta release? A: Please see the read me from the NC Knowledge Base for more info. Search on Linux readme v.567 X300 (or L130/230) The initial version of both releases (april 2008) is v.567 but the versions will change over the life of the program. Please note that NComputing beta Linux software and subsequent releases are commercial products (not open source) and use of the software is subject to the terms of use and end-user license agreements presented during installation of the product. NComputing makes no guarantees or warranties on these beta releases. Copyright NComputing Inc. 2008 |
