I am facing this problem with L230, using windows 2003. The files and folders in the USB thumb drive are visible on the terminals but refused to open  when I click on the files. The message is access denied. The problem occurs for txt, pdf, winword, excel and powerpoint files.

JPG files do not seem to be affected.

Are the users logging locally or on the domain?

Users logged in as domain users.

There appears to be no problem initially but the problems appear after a few days. Are there any mandatory services in win2003 that must be enabled.

The event log in 2003 appears to suggest that the user has no access right to load the USB driver, perhaps causing the error. How can I grant the access right to load the USB driver?

Are the users, just "users" on the domain? Most likely they are. Try adding them to the Powers Users group locally.
Also check to see if the driver can be set to load not under the user but as a "service or Admin"
