Subject: L-series for remote access

Hi,

As a newbe to the ncompting equipment - I have a couple of test units to see if its something our customers might need.

So far so good - but was wondering if anyone has tried using them for external remote access back to an office.  If so how and where can i start testing this.

I have, using a Cable modem at the server end and ADSL 1.5 at the remote end. It is not fantastic but, because I am the technician and user I accept its limitations. I think if I was on ADSL or cable @ both ends I would like it better, because my signal hops across two Provinces in its route and the ping averages 110ms. Also, my firewall has a traffic shaper to ensure that this traffic is of high priority (I would use very high but I cannot alter the allocated bandwith to very high).

It works, I can transfer files from my thumbstick to the server, I have setup IPP to a printer in my remote location. It saves me time and gas.

Excellent news.  I will try remote acces in the next couple of days.  I was wondering as the setup options are pretty limited  - or can url link be put in where the server address goes, or is there something special i might have to prep myself for.

I use the actual IP in TS2 on the L series. Hardware Firewalls at each end let the appropriate Ports through. Both of my firewalls have QoS.

All good info, Thanks.  So you just use the local ip address of your (NComputing)TS.

Can  you confirm what ports i need to have opened on my firewalls.

Nope, I use port forwarding.  The TS2 at remote site uses the external IP of the firewall and all the appropriate port calls are forwarded to the local IP by the firewall.

Can  you confirm what ports i need to have opened on my firewalls.

thanks for you help soo far - can you advise which port you have forwarded on your firewall.  I have created port forwards for 1283 and 3581 and grouped them.

Terminal "Can't find host"   so just checking if i have the right ports, port forwarded on my firewall.

Testing the remote - yes all on this forum was good advise - multimedia is not great remotely and the bandwith usage is rather high - So although remote access using the L-series can be done - it is very slow and its not really recommended.

I would concure. You really do not want to try multimedia remotely. Audio and video streaming are abismal. However, I using things like Word, Excel, Accounting software and web browsers with very little issues. So to me I would qualify the "not really recommended" with "recommended for limited circumstances."

Sammy did you find out what your round trip ping was?
