Hello All;

Before I mention anything else, I believe these product offerings from nComputing are wonderful.  I am testing out a L230 for our shop floor operations.  We have 20+ pc's on the shop floor all logging in with the same user account.  The pc's are a big point of failure and require constant maintenance due to environmental issues.  I've already confirmed they run Vantage 6.1, our database client software without problem.  And, also, the usb port supports a Symbol LS4208 barcode scanner.

I was wondering if there was a limitation on how many times a windows login (user account) can be used on the same server (both XP & Server 2003) with the nComputing terminals?

If the nComputing software is loosely base off of Terminal Services for windows, multiple simultaneous logins should be allowed.  If it is based upon Remote Desktop, single-instance would be the case.

Thanks in Advance for your Responses!

I have logged in multiple times using the same log-in (XP). It works, but it is generally in error when I have done it, so I don't know if there are any real issues. I would think you would want separate logins for each terminal for the USB port assignment of your various scanners. The L230 can have the userid pre-populated so people do not have to remember a userid.

Thanks for your response!  I will probably buy another L230 unit and test them simultaneous with the bar code scanners.  I just wanted to know others' experiences before I goto tigerdirect and get another . . . the best price I've found @ 185+tax and shipping.

The reason we use a general user login is because the database access is what's important.  That's how they clock their operations and scan lots in and out.

The ideal server setup will be running off a Suse linux box w/ quad core Amd, 8gigs memory and raid 5 drives.  The linux box will run two VMWare sessions of xp pro, both with nComputing software installed.  The terminals will be set to use their nComputing servers.  This way, I am in line with licensing and have the ability to add another nComputing server if needed. I think this would work?  Right now, the server is my workstation running the ncomputing software.

Thanks Again

i once tested two point of sale scanners on the same xp host and for some funny reason, one would work while the other didn't, but when i would log onto another machine the second scanner would start up, just giving you a heads up when you get the second terminal.
