A little more detail would be helpful
System?
OS?
Version of software?

try kill the running account session explorer.exe in the Task Manager (Ctrl+Alt+Delete), and use Run to run explorer.exe again, see if this helps. |

Check all background sessions of the host pc. From anywhere of say: antivirus applications, system scans, degrags, etc. Likely cause of freezing usually is the result of something running on the host pc that's causing a conflict of interest. If you're on an XP system (sorry, not sure on Linux) do a spy and adware scan occassionally. Also, real time security scan on antivirus systems tend to eat up lots of system processes. We initially had to kill our real time scan to reduce server crashing of clients.
All these tips were on the old forums which are non-existent anymore. Patch management is a plus as well as keeping up to date with the latest NComputing software and client firmware. Hope this helps.
What kind of network setup do you have going on? More information regarding system setup is generally required. |

I ran into a similar issue. Had to reset the l130's, but the server always seemed to be ok. I was running the server with DHCP from the router. It seemed it always lost an ip for some minute amount off time that would never effect the server itself, but would stop the l130's from communicating. I changed the server to a static IP along with the l130's and I no longer have that problem. |

The Hardware specs is
HOST PC WORKSTATION
> Processor
Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600
> Motherboard
INTEL BLKDP35DPM Mboard
> Memory
4GB DDR2 PC667
> Video Card
256MB PCIE TURBO CACHE
> Hard Disk
160GB 7200 RPM
and then the software, Windows XP SP2 updated all patches except the one produces win32 error the antivirus is AVG 8.0. Also the printer EPSON LX300-II most of the time shows it is offline. |

| Well since the printer is the other weird part of this setup, let's start there. Did you install just the drivers or the entire suite of software for the EPSON? How is the printer connected to the system? |

| Yes we conducted full installation of the Driver and the software for epson LX300+II. The Printer is first installed in the host PC after the Host pc installed the printer we now move and connect it to the console. In the printer and faxes we assign and rename the printers from Copy 1 to Copy 10 according to assigned account name to avoid confusion. It works for a period of time but if we left it overnight in the morning it will now show that the printer is currently offline and we need to restart the Host PC to make it work again. Thank you very much |

Some printers actually go into a sleep mode to save on power. Not sure on this particular model. Go into your control panel for printer settings and see if it has a save power mode at the moment. Disable it if it does. We had a similar issue with a totally different (non-emulation environment) problem.
We were sharing local printers and then running Windows Terminal Services, in a mixed environment. The issue arose whenever we would try to print remotely to that locally shared printer, and it would not print.
**Another non-technical thing you may try. Is in the morning time, goto your host PC and try and print a document from there. May wake up printer at the local level and enable remote printing again. (AKA emulation printing.) Hope this helps.

So do you have 1 or 10 of these dot matrix printers? You are using the USB connection for the printer? Could you do a serial wire drop? The USB port can be flakey for printer use.

| Sorry about that I realize that serial wiring is quite old, but it can travel a large distance. I just noticed that the printer you had had the capacity to use a serial wiring. It also has the capacity to use parallel wiring. Either one would be preferrable to trying to use the USB port on the Ncomputing box. You could also use a print server like a Dlink DP-301p or a Netgear PS121. I think there are many better ways to connect your printer than the USB port. |

| Yes I hope there is, bus as of now the 1 printer is set to 1 office station and there 10 of them because it is a charging station. 10 printers are installed in total to a host. Got any ways to prevent the printer from getting offline? And how can I get them online without restarting the host PC? Again thanks! |

Is it possible to strip the install to only have the printer driver? Are you using any of the advanced features of the printer?
If you restart the computer in the morning, do the printers work all day? It may be useful to just reschedule a reboot each day.

Yes, we tried to install the driver only and not the whole process. No, we havent, used the advanced settings only the basics. Basically that's what we do, restart in the morning but sometimes during the day, same thing happens. If you have other suggestions or ideas it will be greatly appreciated ( coz im running short right now :-) ). Thanks dude! |

Nope I am tapped. It appears you have tried most everything I can think of in regard to the printers. To truly make it work 100% I think you are going to have to put in more wiring. I think the best way would be mini hubs at each terminal and print servers. That way you would not have to run a whole bunch more CAT5.
Good luck

Let me follow this, you have 10 of the same printer hooked up to 10 clients on the same host.
Have you tried to give the printers different names? If they all have the same name, it seems Windows is putting them offline. I maybe wrong. My other question is what is the distance are the clients from the host. Some devices don't work very well when the host pc is more than 10-15 feet away from the host. This is just from expericence working with the Ncomputing terminals. I had an HP printer that was one of the "all in ones' that would do the same. Finally had to use a usb/network device and not use the scanning feature and only install the print driver.
Hope this helps |

"Let me follow this, you have 10 of the same printer hooked up to 10 clients on the same host." Yes that's right.. "Have you tried to give the printers different names?" Yes we also applied that. "Some devices don't work very well when the host pc is more than 10-15 feet away from the host." Right now the longest connection is about 75m and the shortest is 15m. In the last 2 days It seems I have no problem, I installed the new software version (v94). The freeze problem and the printer offline hasnt occured yet. Do you think it helped? Hope so. Thanks a bunch! |
