Product Release Notes for Version 4.03.091 from April 28, 2008

Thank you for using NComputing products. These release notes contain important information regarding the newest available release for your NComputing device or software. NComputing strongly recommends you read the entire document thoroughly prior to installation.

Product: NCT-2000-XP for L-Series devices
Version: 4.03.091

Changes since previous release of 4.03.090 include:

• The default “clean-up disconnected sessions” setting in the NCT console has been changed from zero to five, changing default behavior from NEVER terminate disconnected sessions, to terminate any sessions that have been continuously disconnected for more than 5 minutes. This change was made to accommodate the many schools systems that run their classrooms on the NComputing solution. To adjust this setting navigate via the following path:
• Start >> Programs >> NCT Console, (enter password if needed) >> UTMA \ UTSA Settings >> Information & Settings >> System Settings >> Clean up disconnected sessions not in use
• This release optimizes operating system resource utilization to improve long term performance and stability. It also fixes a problem in how the Microsoft OS handles dynamic allocation and de-allocation of memory in creating and terminating user sessions. This extends the number of “log in & log out” cycles possible under the current OS constraints. NComputing recommends scheduling host system reboots at least once a month.
• The WTSAPI32 option in the set up section of the console is a legacy function and should not be selected.
• Compatibility with Microsoft Update "KB941693" is included in this release.
• Windows XP SP3 provisional support: NComptuing has tested with the most current SP3 update available to developers from Microsoft (the RC2 version as of this readme date). But the final version of SP3 is not presently available for testing and Microsoft might add other changes within the final SP3 release. Within the RC2 version there are some new “remote desktop users" policies and setting changes required by Microsoft that can impact your existing set up. For these reasons NComputing advises that you not update to SP3 until the final version is released, that you make any adjusts needed for the required Microsoft policy changes, and that you evaluate it first on a test system to determine the impact to your environment.
• “Remote Desktop Users” for SP3 (RC2) systems: the following NComputing notice will appear if you install over a host with SP3 installed. Please see our knowledge base for more information:
- Important notice: XP SP3, Microsoft has made user account policy changes.
- Microsoft has made user account “policy changes” which sets a default to only allow administrators to connect using terminal services (error message: "The local policy of this system does not permit you to logon interactively"). To overcome these changes the administrator will need to adjust the user account settings and add them to "Remote Desktop Users" groups. NComputing has posted additional information on this topic in our NComputing Knowledge Base at www.ncomputing.com/ncomputing/support/knowledgebase.php . To locate this information in the knowledge base; search on the words "logon rights" or "remote desktop users."
• Reported errata that were corrected:
- Improved video memory allocation for both paged and non-paged memory
- Resolved Winlogon errors in XP SP2c
- Corrected the gray "View Screen" behavior when screen color quality is 8-bit,.
- View screen option in NCT console UTMA device listing now works in 24-bit mode
- Broadcast message behavior improved
- Resolved KMWPSMS.SYS error
- Improved connection to NCT-2000-XP update server
- Improved NCT console reporting information
- Added compatibility with Microsoft update KB941693
- Updated USB functionality to support multiple memory devices being plugged into an assigned USB port or recognizing most ATAPI REV drives (updated KMStore)
• Note: This update may not be applicable to certain older L-series models; if so, the update process will advise you and will not complete the install.
• Operating system support notice: Windows 2000 and Windows XP MCE (Media Center Edition) will no longer be supported on our older products with future versions of our releases.
